Mallorca champions responsible sport to secure a sustainable future
22 September 2025: Mallorca has established itself as a leading international destination thanks to its privileged climate, diverse landscapes, top-quality infrastructure, and a reputation for professionalism built on decades of experience in the tourism sector and the organisation of world-class events.
Year-round sports activities attract both amateurs and professionals from across the globe, driving the local economy and enriching the island’s tourism offering. High-profile events such as the Mallorca Championships not only put the island firmly on the global sporting map, but also serve as a key platform to promote the Pledge – the Manifesto for Responsible Tourism adopted by Mallorca as a guide toward a more conscious, fair, and sustainable model of tourism.
The Pledge lays out a roadmap to transform the way Mallorca manages its tourism. It calls for a model rooted in mutual respect, shared responsibility, and the protection of the island’s natural, cultural, and social heritage – ensuring the well-being of residents and the quality of the visitor experience. This commitment involves every stakeholder: the public sector, the private sector, and the community, both permanent and seasonal residents. The vision is for everyone to feel proud of being part of this journey, treating the island as if it were their own home.
Driven by the Responsible Tourism Foundation of Mallorca under the leadership of the Consell de Mallorca, efforts are underway to strengthen this model through public–private partnerships that diversify the local economy, reduce seasonality, and balance visitor flows. The foundation promotes year-round active tourism that energises all strategic sectors while fostering sustainable and resilient development tailored to today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Innovation, digitalisation, and the circular economy are key pillars in this transformation, with Mallorca integrating these tools to reduce its environmental footprint, enhance efficiency, and safeguard the island’s future for generations to come.
Mallorca: a premier sporting destination
By supporting world-class international events, Mallorca not only attracts elite sports tourism but also spreads the values of the Pledge, raising collective awareness about the importance of protecting the island. This approach engages all sectors and communities to recognise and embrace their responsibility in preserving Mallorca’s unique natural, cultural, and social heritage.
The island delivers a holistic tourism experience that blends sport, gastronomy, culture, nature, local products, and craftsmanship – creating a high-quality, sustainable, and active year-round offering. With this strategy, Mallorca advances toward a model that ensures economic prosperity without compromising residents’ quality of life or the conservation of its unique identity, securing a sustainable future for generations to come.
