From the makers of Indian cinema’s seminal hits Stree, Mimi, and Chhava, Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films present Tehran, a gripping new geo-political spy thriller now streaming worldwide on Netflix.

Starring John Abraham, Manushi Chhillar, Neeru Bajwa, and Madhurima Tuli, Tehran is a taut thriller rooted in justice and patriotism, telling the story of a man betrayed by Iran, abandoned by Israel, and deserted by India.

Directed by debut filmmaker Arun Gopalan, Tehran is inspired by true events and reimagines the 2012 bomb explosion near the Israeli Embassy in Delhi.

The film interweaves a tense narrative that spans Israel, Iran, and India, pulling audiences into the complex web of global diplomacy and conflict.

It plunges into the shadowy world of international espionage, where loyalty and betrayal blur, and nothing is ever straightforward. Beyond covert operations, Tehran explores the psychological and political mind games that shape modern intelligence wars.

Filmed across Glasgow and India, Tehran unfolds in multiple languages, Hindi, English, Farsi, and Hebrew, preserving the authenticity of its world and giving audiences a chance to experience the story as it would naturally be told. Every detail was treated with care: from the dialogue to the cultural references, the production placed a premium on realism and immersion.

For his role, John Abraham even prepared extensively in Hebrew, turning to an unlikely source, former Chelsea Football Club coach Avram Grant, for guidance on pronunciation.

John Abraham, delivering one of his career-best performances, continues his legacy of politically charged thrillers following acclaimed films like Madras Café and The Diplomat. Opening up about his experience, John Abraham said:“Geo-political thrillers are a genre I deeply believe in and we poured our hearts into Tehran. The incredible response from audiences thus far shows there is a global hunger for bold cinema, films that ignite conversation and connect with people on a real, intense, and thought-provoking level. It reinforces my belief that we must keep pushing boundaries and making cinema that truly matters. With Netflix, this story now has the power to reach global audiences, expanding awareness far beyond borders.”

Director Arun Gopalan on his vision said: “From the very beginning, Tehran was about one thing above all – trust. In espionage, trust is the real currency, and it’s often in short supply. Our film tries to show the human cost of that reality, and also the quiet dignity of those who still choose to trust despite the risks. At the same time, I wanted Tehran to feel rooted in India yet resonate with audiences everywhere. Indian cinema has reached global platforms like Netflix, and with this film, my aim was to tell a story that is deeply local in its detail, but universal in its relevance.”

With its blend of international intrigue, psychological depth, and raw human drama, Tehran delivers a geo-political thriller unlike any other, tense, timely, and now streaming on Netflix worldwide.
